Need advice on buying a water pipe
I am looking for some advice from anyone who owns a water pipe or knows a
lot about them. l myself know a good deal about them, but have never owned
one so l am not sure what things l should get for convenience purposes or
what not... My price range is $300 max, but would like to
spend closer to $200. l want a piece about 16-24 inches tall with thick
glass (+5mm if its a high end brand, 7mm on mid level brand, 9mm on home
blown). l live in the bay area so there are plenty of smoke shops around, l will probably try Big Al is in Berkeley first. Questions l have: -Should l get a high end brand name pipe (roor, illadelph, toro, etc) or a mid level brand name pipe (phx, medicali, etc) or a home blown piece? If you do suggest a brand, which one? The reason l ask is because this pipe is going to be an investment. l will not be getting another one for a while and l want it to last. Because of this, l am thinking about going with a high end brand name because l will be 100% sure of the quality l am getting. Also, l prefer the colorless scientific glass look, not all the artsy stuff. -Should l get a beaker bottom or a straight tube? l prefer the straight tubes, but is there a reason l should get a beaker instead? l know a lot of the beakers cost more money, is it worth it? -What size joint should l get? l know sometimes the 18.8 is more money than the 14.4, is it worth it? -Should l get a perc in it? Personally l am not a huge fan of them because they cost more money, are a pain to clean, and are susceptible to breaking. l will already have a down stem diffuser and when l get more money l will add a diffused ash catcher, so is it really worth it to get a perc? Seems unnecessary, and that l should just spend the money making sure the tube l get is really good. Look forward to hearing from you all. I've always seen them as a decorative item as I've seen them in homes
but never seen one used.
Get some thing that looks good, for when you get tired of the hassle of
cleaning it.
